Salon Saturday - High and low magic in HEKATE’S RETURN

  • Stanza Books 508 Main St. Beacon, NY 12508 United States (map)

FREE

An event for fans of magical practice, fantasy, and history, as well as for writers and members of the literary scene interested in small presses.

In the novel HEKATE’S RETURN, the patriarchal servants of Moloch use rigid, ceremonial “high” magic to control their people and bend nature to their will.

In contrast, the ancient and matriarchal Witches use intuitive “low” magic to collaborate and live in harmony with nature.

These two societies face off in a battle for the futures of both peoples.

In this event, we’ll read passages from HEKATE’S RETURN, dissect the magical systems in the novel, then discuss how those same systems manifest in our own lives. We’ll go on to discuss Stanza’s upcoming publishing efforts.

“High” magic : Top-down, prescribed by an elite priesthood, and expressed through rigid ceremony and ritual.

“Low” magic : Intuitive and personal, each practitioner wielding a set of tools to forge their own magical path.
